Thank you for investing in FileMaker, Inc. software. From time to time we produce maintenance releases of our software that add minor functionality or correct defects. We would like to make it as convenient as possible for you to obtain these new versions and enjoy their benefits.
Updates, in contrast to upgrades, contain few changes from the previous version. Instead of distributing the full, revised application, we can provide just the files necessary to incorporate the new functionality and fixes. When you run the accompanying updater, it will combine your original FileMaker Pro 5.0v1 or FileMaker Pro 5.0v2 software with the new changes to create a new application: FileMaker Pro 5.0v3. All fixes made by FileMaker Pro 5.0v2 are also incorporated into FileMaker Pro 5.0v3. If you are currently using FileMaker Pro 5.0v1, this is the only update necessary.
FileMaker Pro 5.0v3 Updater will update the Worldwide English version 5.0v1 or 5.0v2 to the current release, 5.0v3. This updater will not work on versions 4.1 or earlier of FileMaker Pro and will not update any non-English versions of FileMaker Pro.
This document describes the steps you take to apply the update. You may want to print it out if this is the first update you have installed. A separate "Release Notes" file describes the changes and corrections we have made in the new version of FileMaker Pro.
2. GUIDE TO UPDATING YOUR FILEMAKER PRO SOFTWARE
FileMaker Pro 5.0v3 Updater can run from a floppy disk, a hard disk, or a network disk drive. We recommend performing the update from the hard disk containing the original FileMaker Pro 5.0v1 or FileMaker Pro 5.0v2 file.
2.1 Technical considerations
Hard Disk Space: You will need enough disk space for both the original software and the new version (approximately 8 MB).
Virus Detection Software: The updater makes several resource changes to FileMaker Pro. Many virus utilities consider this activity improper and may try to prevent it. To avoid this inconvenience, disable all virus detection software before applying the update. Make sure to re-enable the virus detection software after applying the update.
2.2 Applying the upgrade
1. Quit the FileMaker Pro 5.0v1 or FileMaker Pro 5.0v2 application.
2. Double-click the FileMaker Pro 5.0v3 Updater.
3. Click the Install button to update FileMaker Pro version 5.0v1
or 5.0v2 to FileMaker Pro 5.0v3. If you have more than one copy
of FileMaker Pro 5 installed on this computer, you will be
prompted to select the copy you wish to update.
In the Mac OS, the updater appends your original file names
with .old and moves them to a folder called FileMaker.old
in the FileMaker Pro 5 Folder, in case something goes wrong
with the installation.
In some situations, the updater may locate both the FileMaker
Pro application and a copy of FileMaker Pro.old on your computer.
(For instance, if you previously updated from FileMaker Pro
5.0v1 to version 5.0v2.) In this case, update the file
named FileMaker Pro. Attempting to update FileMaker Pro.old
will result in an error.
4. After the update process has completed, you will see a message
confirming successful installation of the new version. If the
update process did not complete correctly, you will see a message
indicating what went wrong.
5. Click OK, then quit the updater.
6. You can now open the new version of FileMaker Pro to verify the
update was successful. When you are satisfied with the result,
you can delete the folder FileMaker.old to save hard drive space.

In order to use and/or copy the Update as authorized by this License, you must have validly licensed at least one copy of the Software. The Update and the copies authorized herein replace your validly licensed copies of the Software and are not additional copies (i.e., you may not use the Update in addition to the Software the Update is replacing).
The Update is licensed, not sold, to you by FileMaker, Inc. for use only under the terms of this License, and FileMaker, Inc. reserves any rights not expressly granted to you. You own the disk(s) on which the Update is recorded or fixed, but FileMaker, Inc. and its licensers retain ownership of the Update itself.

3. Termination. This License is effective until terminated. This License will terminate immediately without notice from FileMaker, Inc. or judicial resolution if you fail to comply with any provision of this License. Upon such termination you must destroy the Update, all accompanying written materials, and all copies thereof. You may also terminate this License at any time by destroying the Update, all accompanying written materials and all copies thereof.
4. Export Law Assurances. You agree that neither the Update nor any direct product thereof is being or will be shipped, transferred or reexported, directly or indirectly, into any country prohibited by the United States Export Administration Act and the regulations thereunder or will be used for any purpose prohibited by the Act.
5. Limited Warranty and Disclaimer, Limitation of Remedies and Damages. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE UPDATE MAY NOT SATISFY ALL YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR BE FREE FROM DEFECTS. FILEMAKER, INC. WARRANTS THE DISKETTES ON WHICH THE UPDATE IS RECORDED TO BE FREE FROM DEFECTS IN MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP UNDER NORMAL USE FOR 90 DAYS FROM PURCHASE, BUT THE UPDATE AND ACCOMPANYING WRITTEN MATERIALS ARE LICENSED "AS IS." ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS (INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE) ARE DISCLAIMED AS TO THE UPDATE AND ACCOMPANYING WRITTEN MATERIALS AND LIMITED TO 90 DAYS AS TO THE DISKETTES. FileMaker, Inc.'s liability to you for actual damages for any cause whatsoever, and regardless of the form of the action, will be limited to the greater of $500 or the money paid for the Update that caused the damages.
THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS WILL NOT APPLY IN CASE OF PERSONAL INJURY ONLY WHERE AND TO THE EXTENT THAT APPLICABLE LAW REQUIRES SUCH LIABILITY. 6. General. This License will be construed under the laws of the State of California, except for that body of law dealing with conflicts of law. If any provision of this License shall be held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be contrary to law, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions of this License will remain in full force and effect. If the Software or Update is supplied to the United States Government, it is classified as "restricted computer software" as defined in clause 52.227-19 of the FAR. The United States Government's rights to the Software and Update are as provided in clause 52.227-19 of the FAR.
